I am much more familiar with the tainted and weird history of the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance than any other group.

The same can be said of all of us. The vagaries of the Church have been widely disseminated, but the vagaries of rabbis have not. Although, I would not categorize the Crusades as repression. That was aggression.

But the grip the Church had on the people was not as tight as the rabbis. The medieval Jewish ghetto was a very small, insular community, and thus easier to tyrannize. The Christian community had scientists to murder. Why? Because the Church was not able to repress science.
