Matt, I have long felt that an ASND-MRVC combo makes sense.

It has been pointed out on the ASND thread that ASND is basically only doing RAS and WAN ATM/FR switches (plus GRF). Those two areas may not protect them long term if one or the other should turn sour for them. Their best protection is to be a broad spectrum networker. MRVC would give them that. They could also use MRVC's fiber and ASIC design capabilities, FTTC market, and European customer base.

For MRVC, ASND has access to many large customers and sales channels, especially domestic for their DWDM based products. Both companies are lean and growing explosively, with little legacy baggage, and a merged entity would dominate over BAY, COMS and CS and give CSCO a strong run for their money. It would also of course, as you pointed out, actually increase ASND's attractiveness for acquisition by some bigger fish.

It make sense to me.
