CB, I am aware of the separation in Ireland, but those South of Northern Ireland, prefer the name Eire for their area. There are both Catholics, and Protestants, living in both areas, but it is true that they don't get along very well.
Situations such as this, is why I do not like any denomination of any church. Denominations are like splinter groups that separate themselves from others of the "supposed" same faith, because of the differences of mere human beings, and personal agendas. It is human beings that are constantly screwing up this world.
BTW, I am not a Catholic, and have no use for the hierarchy of that denomination. There is no way I can believe that a guy, wearing a skirt, funny hat, and covered head toe with jewels purchased by the forced donations of even the poorest catholic on earth, can consider himself, or by others, to be closer to God than any other human being. The election of any Pope, has been an election by another bunch of fancy pants called Cardinals, and the back stabbing that goes on when they decide to elect a new Pope, makes the election in America of 2000, and 2004, look like a Sunday picnic. They are brutal, and IMO, are all pompous asses.
Even with the separation in Ireland, the citizens of Eire, don't feel that they are allowed the same freedoms as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. I cannot condone the actions of the IRA, but even though I don't care a fig about the catholic denomination, I can understand their plight. |
