It appears to me that Deahna is getting his input from his colleague at MSDW, Mark Edelstone, who is the semiconductor analyst. A week ago Edelstone was saying growth in semiconductor sales would be 35% in 2001, now he's reducing that to 25%.

Deahna takes that input from Edelstone and says the growth rate for capital spending by semi companies is likely to be be reduced "to 10-15%, down from 30%+ previously") and result in pushouts.

Just a week ago Deahna put out a 2-page report on LRCX with a strong buy, mentioning among other things the 35% growth rate for semiconductor sales in 2001.

I suppose it all depends on whether you believe Edelstone's forecasts.
