demagogue is such a fun word. But really, isn't one man's demagoguery another man's impassioned issue?

you and Rand Paul see the objection to the Cordoba House Mosque as demagoguery (or demagogy) while I see the Anthropogenic Global Warming as demagoguery. Both play to emotions and fears.

But does that mean that neither is worth debating?

The notes in wikipedia about demagoguery are kinda fun
en.wikipedia.org

Joseph McCarthy is presented as a demagogue. If you read the bolded part you can see the parallel to what McCarthy did and what the AGW believers do. If anyone dares to question the high priests of climatology, they are branded as buffoons, idiots and "deniers" (with the dotted line implication to "deniers of the holocaust").

Joseph McCarthy: U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 to 1957. A poor orator,[1] he rose to national prominence during the early 1950’s by accusing a number of politicians and other individuals of being either communists or communist sympathizers. He presented himself as being above reproach while anyone who questioned or disagreed with him he branded as disloyal to the US government. Ultimately his inability to substantiate his claims led him to be censured by the United States Senate in 1954 and to fall from popularity.

It is interesting that Rand Paul is calling for a less impassioned approach to the Cordoba House. I'll be impressed when the left starts calling for a less demagogic approach to things like healthcare, education and AGW.

It's for the kids!!!!!
