Harnessing Continuus Task-Based Methodology Propels Rapid Growth of Orange One Technology for Mobile, Internet and Wirefree Communications
Continuus Software Corp. (Nasdaq:CNSW), the leading provider of eAsset Management solutions, Friday announced that Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Ltd., a provider of a broad range of communications products and services under the Orange brand, has implemented the Continuus eAsset Management solution to accelerate development of Orange applications and services.
Orange One is a new type of phone service using CDMA technology which enables customers to take their home phone with them when they go mobile. When used at home, calls from an Orange One phone are billed at local call rates. When the same phone is used away from home, it works like a mobile phone with calls billed at mobile rates. For the first time, customers can rely on just one phone for all their voice communications.
"Our competitive evaluation concentrated on two key issues -- software change management and change request tracking. It was a very rigorous evaluation because a lot is at stake," said Susan Buttsworth, director of IT and billing at Orange.
"We chose Continuus over other tools on the market due to its intuitive task-based methodology which provides us the means to achieve a greater degree of productivity and efficiency to compete in today's telecommunications market. Continuus also has superior change request tracking that enables customer-defined change request life cycles.
"These two issues, combined with an overall ease of use and the visibility afforded managers, proved to us that Continuus was the wiser choice. Orange will now be able to rapidly launch a range of innovative services and continue as a key player in the wirefree data market thanks to its investment in the Continuus eAsset Management platform."
Hutchison also provides GSM and CDMA resale mobile services along with paging, messaging, long-distance, financial information and Internet services. Continuus will play a pivotal role in these areas as well to ensure that Orange meets its CMM quality goals and objectives.
"When you work for a really dynamic company that has experienced rapid growth over the past three years, as Orange has, expectations are raised across the board in every department," said Mark Kassel, IT quality manager at Orange.
"We set the bar pretty high for a change control and software configuration management solution. The solution had to enhance efficiency in the development cycle, demonstrate a reduction in rework times and improve productivity.
"The Continuus eAsset Management platform empowers Orange IT management through increased visibility of the process across development boundaries while providing a structured method to track changes from concept to product implementation. I am confident this will help us achieve a competitive edge in our development."
"Orange approached Continuus with two goals -- managing and synchronizing two almost entirely separate development teams and automating the different change request life cycles within the dual development environments," said Brian Harrison, managing director of Continuus Software.
"We were able to provide an integrated, task-based solution to better coordinate releases and builds that answered both of their objectives. The Continuus eAsset Management platform will be the foundation to manage rapid and continuous change as Orange establishes repeatable processes for the delivery of customer support and service systems.
"It brings Orange the means to manage software and content life cycles, as well as the projects, processes and people associated with its development."
