Taiwan's UMC Denies ST Microelectronics JV Report TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--United Microelectronics Corp. (2303.TW) Wednesday denied a local media report on Tuesday that it is planning a joint venture with European chip company ST Microelectronics. "The story about a joint venture between ST and UMC in Singapore is false," said Alex Hinnawi, a spokesman at the Taiwan chip foundry. The Chinese-language Commercial Times said on Tuesday the two companies would build a 12-inch wafer plant in Singapore.
