Mike, I am no expert, so please don't rely too much on my opinion. Pharmacia has said explicitly that the next two quarters are a wash-out, and that the results of its restructuring will not become evident until 1998. The stock market is a predicting machine, so I suspect that the stock will turn around before then, but if the next quarter doesn't show early evidence of improved earnings, it is possible that impatient holders will bail. In other words, there could be further weakness before it heads up.

Even so, I think the current price already reflects a lot of the bad news to date. I bought 100 shares at 37 (that shows you what a big-time investor I am!) and won't be disturbed if it drops to 33 or 34 before it heads up again. I don't see it going much lower.

I know zip about Amgen, so I can't help there.

Good luck!

Chuck Edwards
