I think it would also be quite appropriate to look at the people directly responsible for pulling the trigger. Society does need to be protected from killers, regardless of their age. If these kids are EVER let out of prison (assuming they are found formally guilty and sentenced to prison), the families living in the same neighborhoods as these boys are no longer safe.

I personally feel that these kids should be sentenced to life in prison, with no possibility of parole ever, at the minimum. At maximum of course is capital punishment, but I doubt they could legally be sentenced to death because they are so young. Perhaps then, one thing the legislatures could do is make it legal to try juveniles the same as adults, including making them eligible for capital punishment.

I think that as long as kids get the impression that society won't punish them for shooting people, that they will continue to take out their anger with guns. Obviously some parents aren't raising their kids with any sense of right or wrong, so society needs to start being responsible towards awarding appropriate consequences. As my former Jr. high school teacher called it, "the lead pipe treatment".
