CDMA is code division multiple access, TDMA is competing time division multiple access. CDMA [see Qualcomm, stock Qcom who invented it] is like many speaking different languages in a crowded room. You can understand them because their voices are coded and the surrounding sounds don't interfere provided you understand the language you are listening to. TDMA would be the situation if each person talk turns at talking for a microsecond at a time. Analogue requires silence from all while one conversaton proceeds. CDMA is therefore very efficient. Because the signal is spread over the spectrum, signal detection is easier and less power is needed. The processor can also do things like manage power needs, use reflections to boost signal strength, send voice frequencies only, filter extraneous sounds. It's great. Complex, but elegant. [See discussion group: CDMA in commercial operation in this list of topics in which you have this satellite topic]. See Qualcomm home page and "Money Investing Update" in which you can get company information. Regards, Maurice Winn
