Yes, you could have a veritable symphony of "pingsters". One would I suppose have to play "1st Ping", "2nd Ping", etc.

Waaaay in the back you could have a lowly desktop PC, the equivalent of a cymbal occaisonally issuing an accentuated rhythm:

"ping 206.253.217.10"

The above is innocent enough in moderation, but devious minds have a way of taking a good thing to the extreme!

If you need to know the IP address of a given server, you simply issue a "trace route" command in a shell window, something like: (depending on the O/S)

"tracert www.siliconinvestor.com"

which would return the IP address of every router or server that passed the packet from your desktop to the target system. Try it on a distant server like www.china.com and the number of skips will probably be less than 20....really amazing when you think about it!
