gpowell - are you willing to fill me in a bit more on who you are, your background, etc.??

In answer to a couple of your questions:

- we have to deal with significantly less attenuation due to humid haze and fog @ 1550 nm than at 810 nm, where most of our competitors operate.

- the result of a significant engineering effort on our part has the SONAbeam product developed with a heavy link margin for fog and subsequently has more than a sufficient link margin to deal with very heavy rainfall.

- a combination of field test data and the direct experience of our engineering team, having previously designed and field tested an operational 4km link operating at 1550 nm, support our atmospheric propagation models.

- if you have read thru our web site you will be aware that we have a relationship with British Telecom Labs and have access to an extensive field test and observatory database that has given us an availability model based on stats from London, Glasgow and Manchester. The system is being designed to meet a minimum availability stat of 99% over the specified distance for the model being deployed. With the improvements applied to the both the receiver and transmitter we expect to have notably better performance than was actually experienced in the BT field tests.

Sincerely,
Leigh McBain
