Change is unavoidable. You Canucks take hockey for granted too much -

Yes - it was probably great when there were 6 teams and they drove around on trains with the writers and they all drank like fish (real men don't have drinking problems - ask Theo Fleury). But it is a big, international (or Don Cherry would say 'pussy') corporate game out there.

As a rank outsider, from NYC, who has just learned to skate half way decent since moving to Maine (hockey mania) and having to keep up w/ my 6 yr old -I believe that -

1. hockey players on balance are the most decent, lowest ego, hardest working guys in pro sports. Adam Graves is the nicest guy ever to play pro sports anywhere.
As some one wrote somewhere - if you had a flat - what athlete would be most likely to stop and have a jack? I lived next to a couple real young Devils in NJ - those guys were great - they came to all our keggers and stole all the best chicks. Wait a minute......
2. It is the perfect game for TV - it just fits in the screen perfectly
3. It is even better live - unlike football where you really can't see a thing and baseball (which I love) where not a whole lt happens in the 3 hours you are sitting there
4. It is a great life experience for kids to play - (although I could use more sleep Sat mornings)

5. 1994 was the greatest sports event in NYC - better than all the Yanks and Mets and Giants wins. Messier guaranteeing a game 7 vs. the Devils, the endless game 7 vs the Canucks. It brought the city together.

6. The Islanders suck, their fans suck and, upon further review, Dennis Potvin still beats his wife.
