Siemens wins E54m GSM contract in Thailand By Total Telecom staff 22 June 2001 Germany's Siemens announced Friday a GSM network expansion deal worth E54 million (US$46 million). The contract was awarded by Thai mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS). Siemens Information and Communication Mobile (IC Mobile) will supply and install base stations and mobile switching technology to expand the existing network, with the expansion expected to be completed in October. AIS said in April it would invest $500 million in its network this year. The company, an affiliate of Shin Corp., has 2.6 million subscribers, or a 55% market share.
