At the moment, it appears that the only direct competition that Spyglass has is from Navio (the Netscape affiliate). The Microsoft product (Windows CE) doesn't seem to be as focused as the Spyglass or Navio products. One could of course argue that Windows CE will include browsing as part of the OS.

It seems to me that Spyglass has a 6 month to a year head start on Navio when it comes to this technology. Spyglass has also announced licensing agreements with nearly all the major Real-Time OS vendors, while I've yet to see any such agreements from Navio.

I should also point out that web browsers on consumer devices isn't the only business Spyglass is in. They also have a line of servers and their SurfWatch products are leaders in their niche.

I got a different message from the anouncement today. It said to me that Spyglass is fully commited to this new device market and they are willing to risk a quarter or so of less than stellar earnings in order to make sure they have the resources in place to take on the Navios of the world. The CEO didn't say it will be a bad quarter, he said it might. There are several factors beyond Spyglass' immediate control which would cause him to make such a statement.
