O’Reilly said that the column’s point was that Rather’s errors in the memo matter weren’t deliberate, and that the anchor was getting unfairly charged with deliberately running a fake story.

See, this is where I DISAGREE. I think Rather INTENTIONALLY ran what he suspected OR SHOULD HAVE SUSPECTED was a FALSE REPORT. I think he did this as he was DESPERATE to secure a KERRY WIN in this election. That ALONE makes him UNWORTHY TO BE A NEWS REPORTER. I think he felt the American people would immediately JUMP on his story and NOT ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS. Personally, I think the FEC or whomever oversees these people should COME DOWN HARD on CBS and all people involved in that story. Jail time would NOT be out of the question. This is FAR WORSE in my judgement then Janet Jackson showing for a brief instant a not too pretty breast. jdn
