Booker Rising - Swann Considers Run for Governor
By Molotov

The Pro Football Hall of Famer, college football TV commentator, and national spokesperson for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America may run for the Pennsylvania governorship in 2006. The Republican, who was appointed to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in 2002, and stumped for President Bush's re-election, has been discussing the issue with state GOP officials. Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat, has history on his side: No sitting governor has been denied re-election since the state constitution was amended in the late 1960s to allow two consecutive terms. However, some folks believe that the famous Mr. Swann could unseat them. The state Senate Majority Whip and a former Lt. Gov. also seek the GOP nomination.

We'd have to know more about his platform - e.g., is he a moderate or a conservative? Fundraising wouldn't be an issue though.
