Citrix is providing front-line support, which saves Microsoft some of the cost of supporting customers.

Actually, Citrix prices direct support to discourage it. Citrix Partners provide front line support. Citrix Knowledge Base has many answers which allows people who prefer to waste days fixing a problem that a partner could fix in minutes.

My birdies say that Bear Claw is based on RPC instead of the TS kernel. I also had heard it would be feature pack (or similar nomenclature) of Win 2003. As you pointed out, that has been delayed. MS seldom does much to benefit other parties unless MS benefits also.

Citrix recently announced the signing of a 5-year technology sharing deal with MS. The original 5-year deal ran out, and was extended in a 3-year deal. You are correct that Citrix is a cash-generating machine.

Citrix is investing in marketing and working diligently to keep customers in their annual SA renewal program.

As long as Citrix can keep feeding MS with customers and revenue, MS should reward them. MS have shown themselves to be very self-interested. It is interesting seeing them appearing to assist another company. The delay may be due to technical issues.
