At least 50 people were killed and 131 injured Wednesday afternoon in Baghdad after two bombings targeted soccer fans celebrating Iraq's victory in the Asian Cup.

Crowds of fans gathered in the streets after the Iraqi team clinched a place in the Cup finals for the first time in the history of the tournament.

The first attack was a suicide bombing at 6:30 p.m. local time outside a well-known ice cream shop in the western Baghdad neighbourhood of Mansour. At least 30 people were killed and 75 wounded.

About 45 minutes later a suicide car bomber struck revelers near an Iraqi army checkpoint in the eastern district of Ghadeer. This attack killed at least 20 people, including two soldiers, and wounded 61, area officials said.

An additional person was killed and 17 injured by celebratory gunfire after Wednesday's victory.

Five people were killed in the celebratory gunfire that followed Iraq's win over Vietnam in a quarterfinal match played in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday.

The final game of the Asian Cup will take place Sunday in Jakarta.
