Yes, it's a major blow to the platform, but I think there will still be software for it. Also, most of the Newton software out there seems to have been developed as shareware. So I don't think support for it will be completely non-existent. Like Reagan said, "We all have to take care of each other and tighten our belts a bit like our forefathers during the great depression."

Newton/Emate support groups should increase their activity and print directories of heavy Newton/Emate strongholds so that developers would know who to contact and what the needs are.

In an education environment, perhaps students themselves could learn to program the Newton and it could be a class project to develop their own software. You'd be suprised what kids can do! I've seen some amazing stuff developed on Hypercard by 7th and 8th graders.
