Alcatel Is 'Net-commerce' Ready; Alcatel at Telecom 99 - Hall 4, Stand No. 210

PR Newswire, Monday, October 11, 1999 at 08:52

GENEVA, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) today announces its
Net-commerce solution suite of products to support the booming market of
e-commerce.
As part of its strategy of focusing on high growth segments of the
competitive telecom market, Alcatel continues to heavily invest in this area
to guarantee our customers the best-in-class service solutions.
Today the hottest letter in the Internet world is "e" standing for
e-commerce, e-mail and many other electronic applications supporting the
growing networked economy. Alcatel believes this networked economy can only be
realized when based on a strong communication platform able to support
multimedia sessions, which integrate Internet information browsing, human
assistance and commercial transactions. Commerce today has also become a
matter of the right information at the right place presented to the user in
the right form. Alcatel's suite of solutions creates the long awaited
synergies between the e-commerce and networks of all types, creating a new
environment that Alcatel calls Net-commerce.
Alcatel's solution for Net-commerce is based on four major elements:

Contact centers - They enable personalized interaction between the buyer
and the seller all over the world. Users can get ready support, whether it be
access to instant information or to highly skilled agents wherever they may
be.

Intelligence - With the "death of distance" it is important to assure that
any information source or person be reachable directly and that no network
resources are wasted which could create a cumbersome wait for an answer.
Business rules based routing of the contact sessions has always been the
foundation of the Intelligent Network services delivered by Alcatel and has
been successfully exploited by the service providers.

Transactions - Any commercial interaction will result in an electronic
transaction. Alcatel's on-line payment server based on state-of-the-art
security measures will guarantee the correct fulfillment of the transaction as
an integral part of the Net-commerce.

Adding a solid management system and the capabilities to fully integrate
these applications with each other and within the existing environment Alcatel
offers service operators and enterprises a complete solution to support the
booming e-commerce market.
The Alcatel Net-commerce offer fully exploits the latest Alcatel network
solutions including call servers, Omni-PCX, service management centers and a
suite of CTI driven call centers. The Alcatel Net-commerce offer differs from
other solutions in that it brings a fully integrated suite of network
applications, which bridge the gap between the end-user application and the
network. Net-commerce will help enterprise users and service providers to
shift into top gear in the new network based e-commerce.
