The U of M paper makes it crystal clear there is a delicate balance between oxygen tolerant and oxygen intolerant bacteria in the lungs. Too much oxygen entering the lungs and the oxygen tolerant bacteria (OTB) over proliferates. Too little oxygen, and the oxygen intolerant bacteria (OIB) over proliferates. Practically ALL MASKS result in a 15-20% reduction in oxygen availability to the lungs, which inevitably results in... yep, U guessed it... OIB over-proliferation, and very quickly, BP.
Once diagnosed as BP by a health professional, instead of prescribing the only cure of no more masks, incompetence leads to administration of oxygen (causing an opposite bloom of OTB in the lungs).
