I think the Jones Settlement is a good example of how the politicians exempt themselves from the laws they make for us. In order for you or I to pay a settlement of 850,000, we would have to do the following:

First we would have to pay our living expenses during this time
Next we would have to pay our payroll taxes
Then we would have to federal, state and local taxes
Then we would have to pay our legal fees

So using estimates of the above items one would have to gross in excess of 2,000,000 dollars in order to pay 850,000 and live quite modestly while they were doing it. Clinton doesn't have to pay taxes on the money he is using. His living expenses are paid for by us and his attorneys have given him unlimited credit. (Something all of us encounter everyday- sorry JLA.) No wonder he was willing to settle. What financial pain did he feel? What was he forced to give up in order to pay for his actions? What does he know about the anger and humiliation of having a judgement enforced against you? What does he know of the desperation and depths of dishonesty you will go to when your own lawyer tells you in the middle of major litigation, that unless you make some progress on the bill, he will not be able to devote the time to your case that you think it needs? All of this to me is the real travesty of this case. What did it cost Clinton? Answer: Nothing.
