It would be interesting to see him run against Palin in the 2012 primary. I doubt she would hold up to a direct assault from a fellow Republican very well.

I agree with the general observation but not the specific. Romney is such a boring speaker and she is all lightning. She might actually do well. At least in the public mind.

My own guess is that the Rep field in 2012 will be very different. There are quite a few media attractive representatives who may either make it to the senate by then or simply work their way into enough media presence to take a run at the nomination. One of those things such as Bill Clinton did in 92--run expecting to lose, the better to position himself for a more serious run four years later.
