I just heard Sayonee few days back.. Actually saw a video clip of the song.. As you can see from the lyrics, petty simple but the song touches a cord.. Very contemporary in how it is delivered.. Correction.. Sayonee means 'my dear friend or beloved' per this interview.. Incidentally, I would recommend you click on the link and read the interview.. Easy to see why these guys strike a chord with people all over..

I looked up the web site a bit and turns out these guys, the group Junoon, are very popular in both India and Pakistan, although a Pakistani band, they have toured India.. Their songs at times a mix.. Urdu, at times Punjabi words thrown in with a twist of sufi thought..
3 members of the group are made up of the lead guy, who is a doctor by training but never practiced.. Have lived in USA through his teens. He is a Muslim but call himself a Sufi, pens the lyrics, and the 2nd guy, who is the lead singer is a sunni muslim, Pakistani and the third guy actually is a Christian american who is married to a Pakistani girl.. All of them live in Karachi when not touring.. Talk about fusion..
They incidentally will be playing in San Jose on May 12, if you check the link I had.. They will be here tomorrow and I am trying to see if I can go.. Definitely not a superficial group when you look at their output and some of the other songs (translated to English on the 2nd link on my message..)
Enough of that.. As for the song you mentioned.. Yeah.. Was a huge hit.. Not sure of the film.. I was trying to find another pakistani song for you but cannot find a ready source for the lyrics.. Very popular 20+ years ago.. Sona na chandi na mahal jane man, tujko main, de sakoon ga.. Phir bhi wada he tuj se, tu jo kare pyar muj se, chota sa ghar ek dunga, sukh dukh ka sathi banoo ga... |
