Remember that LTC was private; JPM is public. Footnotes do contain a derivative disclosure. New FAS rules require even more disclosure going forward. So you can crawl thru JPM 10K and decide if there is a problem.

Since these can be very complex instruments, the footnotes are also very complex. And the creators of the instruments are running way ahead of analyst skills to make a reasonable risk assessment.

When I see a derivative disclosure where the amount is material to the company and I can't figure out what they are doing, I stay away...
