Intel raised the voltage of the Katmai (0.25u Pentium III) from 2.0V to 2.05V in order to drive the frequency from 550 to 600 MHz. No biggie, just five-hundreths of a volt, although the voltage hike did signal the last of the Katmai line of processors.

That's what I thought. But Paul seems to be making a big deal out of AMD doing the same.

But generally, it's a better idea to buy the first speed grade of the next generation process than last speed grade of the previous generation, if the prices are the same.
