I think you are mistaken.

People can choose to act in different ways. If you never allow people to change by accusing them of hypocrisy when they do, then people can never grow and become "better"- defending on how you define better (obviously some people might define better as name calling, or never changing from name calling, or in some other way I cannot fathom, but I can't say that I do).

Of course some people might think 0-personal growth is a good thing. I could never agree with anyone with thought that.
