Indian government formalises WLL spectrum package

The Indian government has said that it will allocate spectrum to basic service operators on a
"first-come, first-served basis". And instead of the maximum of 5 MHz stipulated in the original
policy, the operators will be allocated just 2.5 MHz. The reduction in spectrum is due to lobbying
from the cellular networks to the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal. However the
basic operators are unhappy with the reduction in spectrum, and the cellular networks are
unhappy that the spectrum is being offered for free.
