Government entry into a sector does not promote competition. Competition cannot exist without the ability to vote with your feet. If states want to socialize medicine let them. If you want to move to Massachusetts because you can get healthcare I am all for it. As we have previously discussed one of the biggest problems with medical insurance is government mandates. Federalizing it will require people desiring to vote with their feet to emigrate.
