Compaq and Allscripts to Provide Physicians Innovative Mobile Tools; $100 Million Pact Expands Marketing, Distribution & Support of TouchWorks(TM)
HOUSTON and CHICAGO, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) and Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (Nasdaq: MDRX - news) today announced an agreement to deliver the Allscripts TouchWorks(TM) suite with Compaq's innovative products and technology integration services, forming a joint physician mobility platform running on Microsoft operating systems. The three-year agreement is expected to generate more than $100 million in revenue for Compaq from delivery of services and hardware to the Allscripts customer base.

``This agreement is an embodiment of Compaq's vision to partner with leading solutions that address critical issues in healthcare,'' said Peter Blackmore, Executive Vice President Sales and Services at Compaq. ``We're positively delighted that Allscripts Healthcare Solutions is standardizing their mobile physician applications on Compaq's combination of world class services and enabling, end-to-end technology.''

According to Allscripts Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman, healthcare technology providers and clinicians are enamored by the potential handheld technology offers to improve healthcare quality and efficiency. Tullman suggests that without the comprehensive end-to-end technology infrastructure and connections Compaq offers, most handhelds are little more than expensive day planners.

``At Allscripts, we see the iPAQ Pocket PC as the conduit to the enterprise where the vast body of critical information resides,'' said Tullman. ``The question in healthcare is not whether the information exists, but rather providing access to the right information at the right time, and the right time is at the point-of-care when the physician is in the decision making process. We selected Compaq as a key technology partner not only for the iPAQ Pocket PC, but also for their industry-leading ProLiant servers and for their ability to provide the full range of technology integration, financing, and deployment services. In collaboration with Compaq, we expect to accelerate the deployment of our TouchWorks solutions.''

``In Allscripts, we are partnering with a leader in the healthcare market. We share their vision and respect their accomplishment in delivering a leading edge physician mobility platform,'' said David Parsons, Vice President, North America eBusiness Solutions & Alliances for Compaq. ``Our complementary enterprise computing technology and services provide Allscripts a powerful platform from design to delivery and services. This is a great win for both companies as well as for healthcare providers.''

Under the agreement, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions will standardize their TouchWorks(TM) clinical information products suite for the platform of Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PCs, DeskPro Workstations and ProLiant servers. Selling or leasing the bundled solutions directly to medical practices and healthcare institutions, Allscripts also becomes one of Compaq's largest healthcare resellers.

As well as providing Compaq products to Allscripts TouchWorks(TM) users, Compaq Customer Services will accelerate deployment and delivery of the bundled TouchWorks(TM) solution in customer offices and provide post- installation support including maintenance and help desk services. Completing the multi-faceted partnership, Compaq and Allscripts will cooperate on reference site development and conduct joint marketing programs.
