The greater the time difference between an OS release and the age of the hardware, the more likely a person will witness problems such as you described.

Unfortunately old hardware is often faced with compatibility issues and finding suitable drivers.

Something those on a budget that want Win10 might consider is getting a Win7 box from Ebay. Most of these PCs are off-lease computers that companies have retired. They're cheap and still available.
