Am not sure what this will exactly mean for AMD, however, to counter the post that AMD & CPQ have a deal maybe Steve can give us his impression on whether CPQ will forge a deal with AMD if their yield is constantly trailing expectation, and their quality issues remain unsolved.
I don't think CPQ (or any major mfg'er) can afford to their reputation just to prop up AMD. Their woes will not go away if they don't change their fundamental approach to quality manufacturing. I know this right from the inside, as one of the guys I work with was a pioneer for AMD here in S'pore. He left a little more than two yrs. ago.
Vinod is a symbol for quality and excellence, and his departure will hurt AMD, irregardless of whether he was to blame for the issues with yield (mainly a quality, not a design issue) on the K6, which were the same on the K5, etc. Seems like low yield goes through AMD like a red thread...
