I heard a radio bit from a woman in S. Africa, where she says they too have a 'gun culture', and most people that can afford them own guns. She said that there are shootings, and they suffer from what she called 'gangsterism', but they don't have the phenomenon of mass shootings. She said for some reason, that seems unique to the US.

I looked up SA gun legislation and find that the country has a much stricter legal hurdle for gun ownership...other than that I don't know why they don't have more incidents of mass shootings. Heaven knows they have had a troubled past of racial problems.
