Dan Scovel, an analyst with Fahnestock & Co., has had a "hold" rating on Intel since January. Although he said the company
will remain formidable, he expressed concern that many have overestimated its potential. "We're not convinced that their
revenue growth and their earnings are going to continue in the, say, 30-35 percent range that a lot of people are expecting," he
said.

Scovel says that while the entire chip group is vulnerable to any slip-ups by the industry leader, there are still "some really good
values out there." One of them, he said, is multimedia product developer S3 Inc., which rose 1 1/2 to 13 after the company
introduced a DVD-based technology that it said brings cinema-quality video to personal computers. Scovel also recommends
C-Cube Microsystems, coincidentally one of S3's partners in the DVD venture. C-Cube added 1 3/8 to 21 3/4.
