NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- The convertible bond of Quantum Corp. rose substantially on
Monday.

Quantum's (QNTM: news, msgs) 7.00 percent convert maturing in 2004 closed at the 95 to
95 1/2 level. That's up from its 86 to 87 from mid-April. The Quantum convert offers a 7.3
percent current yield -- which gives investors a yield advantage of over 720 basis points over
the company's common stock and an 8.1 percent yield-to-maturity. The issue is registered,
which means it can be purchased by non-institutional investors and is rated "B+" by Standard
& Poor's and "B2" by Moody's Investors Service.

The Quantum convert has a 79 percent conversion premium and its call protection expires in
August 1999 when the convert is provisionally callable until August 2001 if the quantum
common stock trades 125 percent above the conversion price of $46.325 for 20 out of 30
trading days.
