If you annotate at the hard asset cycle that you illustrate well with your graphs with major geopolitical events, you see that your hard asset cycle could also be renamed "Black Swan Inflationary events". In other words, the hard asset booms of the past 40 years followed things such as the yom-kippur war, and are not some law relating to the nature of economies.
