Jack I too have been through those 10,000 posts and agree with you that this "Lan" article does a very good job of showing our strengths and weekness. Its funny that I noticed the same items you posted. Specifically:

(1) "...Network increases with the square of the number of users"; proves that Novell's NDS can become the standard as long as we get a critical mass user base. We are well ahead of MS on this one and perhaps have a lead time of between 18-24 months.

(2) "...a pervasive cross-platform directory already in place that could be extended to keep track of software objects..." suggests that Novell's current strategy of an "open system platform" model is very critical to their overall implementation of the business plan. 1996 was an excellent year in bringing this open platform to market. However, I believe SALAH had posted that Novell has been working on the new Netware 4.11 version for over a year. I agree that Novell has the technology or 90% of what's needed but fail to communicate exactly what they have.

(3) "...Deutsche Telekom, the third-largest phone company, has begun trials of its similar Intralink Service..."; it appears that they are still working with Novell..<Joe did Novell drop the ball on this one or do they still utilize the Novell NDS standards?>...Both "...AT&T's WorldNet Intranet Connect Service and ... & Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, the second-largest phone company on Earth, has begun offering similar networking services managed by NDS." Novell continues to add value to the 'de-facto' standard.

Jack - Novell is now trading at $4-$5 above it's book value (as I calculate it based on cash, real estate and equity assets) and current management can not guarantee even a 10% growth rate...the stock is fairly valued.

Get a management that can get our growth rate in the 20%-30% range and the stock should be valued at $18-$26 a share. If the 'management' can show this performance for three straight quarters then this sharholder will guarantee you that our stock should be above $20!

Thank's for showing those 'positives' that we do have and the opportunities ahead for this company. It's just implementing the necessary changes to achieve these result that needs to be addressed.

A new CEO must address the strategy necessary to obtain these results.
