I do not like the funds because of their fiduciary needs to own too many industries and companies. But because I like risk and beer, or I should say beer then risk, I bought some Tsingtao in January--in part tagging along with AB's substantial investment. I also bought China telecom, but it seems richly priced today for a company basically regulated by the party/government; and Tsingtao runs the risk of losing export rev's when the R is revalued. I swear I'm a long term investor.

I also looked into medical distributors, and kinda liked the one distributing penicillin throughout the country, but even it looked too flaky which is really saying something. Finally, I was poised to buy Shangri-la, a very outstanding hotel manager/owner, in the depths of the SARS scare but the stock price never cratered as it would have over here--very interesting lack of response (!).

Figures a committed BT investor would have an appetite for a few individual China ADRs. This is why my accounting professor said I'd never own my own home.
