*OT* Q: Will the Democrat establishment feel comfortable with a "free-thinker"...?

A: (at least my answer) NO! After all, it is still politics...(Remember Tsongas?)...

I agree with you...Bradley is brilliant, and has very good ideas.......but, IMO, he has no chance against a VP of (what has been generally seen as) a very good 8-year presidency...Gore also has the entire party machine at his disposal...

It would be interesting to see Bradley run as an independent...Would love to see him launch (once again) the fabled 3rd party....

You are right about Bush too...but being a popular gov. from a large state with a presidential last name with get you pretty far...with or without great ideas to boot......Money should not be a problem either for him....

I agree with you that Dole would be strong....I just think that you need to define, and then exploit weaknesses (in your opponent) to win the prez...Besides being boring (which should not cost him many votes)...I still fail to see (from a political standpoint...not an ideaological one) any "exploitable holes" in Gore as long as Clinton remains as popular as today (and no war, and good economy)...

Except for the 33% that think Clinton should resign....IMO, no one will want to hear a negative campaign (against Gore) about the Clinton affair...any attacks would galvinize the left against the Republican candidates, and many moderate...and Gore can run on the economy of the last 8 years (even though we all know presidents don't have much to do with it..)..

It'll be interesting..I'm sure this won't be our last convo...
