News from the Business Times, Jan 27, 6:15 AM: SHARE prices closed 0.3 per cent lower yesterday, as investors squared positions in thin trade ahead of the long holidays. The Straits Times Industrials Index fell 3.53 points to 1,256.30. The broader All-Singapore Index rose 1.68 points to 373.34. Turnover fell to 161.86 million shares worth S$263.33 million from last Friday's 263.58 million shares worth S$602.48 million. Rising stocks led those falling 218 to 112, with 258 counters unchanged. Volume leader was Renong Bhd which posted a turnover of 14.1 million shares and ended unchanged from its previous close of 29.5 cents. Top gainer was Creative Technology Ltd which rose 50 cents to close at S$34.40, while among the top losers was beverage bottler Fraser and Neave Ltd which closed 30 cents lower at S$6.00. Property stocks were among those actively traded, led by Keppel Land Ltd, which rose six cents to S$1.30. (Copyright 1998)
