My brother is seeking a surgery related to Parkinson's, and it would cost $6k. The insurance co. has spent approx. $4k trying to deny it. I went to a 'level 2' appeal with him, and the group from "their side" in the room cost an estimated $1250/hour, and they spent nearly an hour right then on his case, plus time before and after, the other two denials, the third opinion they ordered, and so on. Nearly doubled the cost of his procedure. I'm sure on the paperwork end they'll make up that gap and have the total cost be equal to 100% over the medical cost.
