This dood (Baker) has turned into Fannie Mae's b*tch. What a wuss....<NG>

Washington, April 5 (Bloomberg) -- Representative Richard Baker signaled he's open to compromise with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over his proposed bill to let the Federal Reserve Board oversee the two largest U.S. purchasers of mortgages.

The companies object to provisions in the bill that would give the Fed power to rewrite capital standards and determine what new activities Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac may undertake.

Baker said he consulted with the two mortgage companies and plans to be flexible on his legislation, which he described as ``a vehicle for discussion.''

That's great. He KNOWS they need to be reigned in, and now he's asking THEM how to do it? I've got this nauseous sense that the American bagholder...ERRR, TAXPAYER, will be bailing these guys out for years to come (hell, forever for most of us...)
