Bill,

I came to the exact same conclusions as you regarding how to stop the devouring of the jaz carts by the jaz drives, BUT it stopped working for me. It's quite possible I was rough on them, despite my attempts at care. I have a serious space and clutter problem.

I started with one Performance, when two of them consecutively did their eating thing, Zone gave me a third free exchange for an IOM. The Performance brand had internal fans, so I thought they'd be better, but they were the first ones I tried. When the IOM replacement failed IOM themselves gave me a replacement and at that time I bought a second from Warehouse -- thinking for backup of carts and for use of one while another might be being repaired. When those two failed IOM gave me replacements. I am sending them a huge batch of ruined carts this week, but am not sure I even want to try to use them.

One problem is that IOM uses their own proprietary format, so when the data can't be accessed by the drive, Norton will destroy it, if you try to fix with Norton. I only learned this from IOM recently. I consistently found it impossible to repair these carts once the drive caused one single bad spot on the cart.

I need a much more sturdy alternative to jaz.

Games are good. I haven't tried that one, thank goodness. I use Windows for Newport, which helps me manage the stocks I manage with AIM.

When you talk to Apple's ad agency, suggest they include a copy of Wallpaper, too. :-)

Linda
