I think at this point WDC is toast and has only to throw in the towel. There is really only room for 3-4 players to live profitably in this space (more can survive if they are willing to suffer a long slow painful death)

SEG has given notice it's time to drive the stake into the heart. In a sense QNTM and SEG only compet tangentially, in that QNTM could exit the HDD biz altogether and still be quite profitable, and SEG has moved a signif. chunk of its biz into software. For those without fallback positions elsewhere (HDD-only), good luck. I can't imagine why WDC doesn't try to sell to IBM.

Both QNTM and SEG are slowly moving back up in stock price (SEG has been on a much choppier path, but QNTM has had the same up and down patttern -- 6 steps fwd, 5 steps back. The magnitude of any jump in QNTM or SEG stock prices will depend largely on the market psychology, and the eventual drop out or bankruptcy of some of the weaker players.
