The story of King Canute attempting to command the waves seems not to have happened, except perhaps as an act of humility by Canute, demonstrating that only God and not earthly rulers can command the elements. But now we have a real life King Canute in Obama, who famously claimed "this is the moment the rise of the oceans began to slow" as he took office.
