Thanks for reminding me. I finally went to the Lakeforest Mall (Gaithersburg, MD) to inspect the Java Centrale site. The location couldn't be more choice! Right smack in the central court of a very busy shopping mall, adjacent to a self-tended day care center (fancy play pen) for kids 2 - 12. They have a large selection of beverages and some tempting pastries. I was there Sunday at 12:30, not the busiest time for a coffee shop, but there were some customers nonetheless. The owner and one helpful young lady assistant were on the premises; she asked me if she could help. The prices are expensive for my taste (small coffee $1.00, going up to $2.50 for a fancy coffee). Didn't see any competitors nearby, though there are some very nice ethnic and domestic fast food courts in the vicinity. The layout was attractive, the setting pleasant with tables to sit down and take a break while having coffee. If I were an impulse purchaser, I would probably frequent the site for an afternoon break.
I was too shy to engage the franchise operator (owner) in shop talk but perhaps the next time. The bottom line, I think they have an OUTSTANDING location, the menu looks great, and there ought to me substantial profit margins. Volume is key, however, and I promise to work on that aspect. |
