Kemble: I hope that things are going well for you and your family.

Yesterday, I got a call from a Smith Barney broker who had sent me some marketing propaganda and his company's "Top Picks for 1999."
The only hardware firm his company mentioned was Compaq (with the highest rating). In a nice way I told this broker that I was amazed that his firm did not have DELL on their target list. I told him that DELL had delivered a superior return for me in the last year and I had no reason to make changes. I also told him that DELL was my largest position in both of my accounts because of the company's strong leadership, unique business model, incredible growth prospects and their consistent ability to surprise on the upside. The broker acknowledged that DELL was a good stock but he also said that he did not really follow the hardware sector. Hmmm.... He did agree to send me his firm's latest research on DELL....I am interested in seeing this. My hunch is that Smith Barney could be in bed with Compaq (for lucrative investment banking business). It's only a hunch. It is amazing what kind of "predictions" some of these firms will pump out.

I will continue to buy stock online with the help of Schwab and Waterhouse -- they provide great service and seem to execute at a much lower cost than traditional brokerage firms.

I just checked First Call on DELL and really liked the latest update from Cowen Securities (they have been on target as long as I have been investing in DELL). Cowen has rated DELL with a "Strong Buy" and said..."our visit to the company confirms strong momentum. FQ4 biz is tracking strongly; better corporate pipeline; our est $.31 (vs. .20). Enterprise mix should continue to richen." Hmmm...it seems like they have been doing their homework! I wish Smith Barney would do more careful research and add a GREAT company like DELL to their "Most Promising Stock List for 1999." Just my opinion.

I look forward to DELL's delivery of stellar results in February. They will continue to prove that they are the next DELL!!
