I would counter that fatuous and shallow-reasoned argument with this comment cribbed from "The Coming Week" in the Street.com dated Friday, December 11, 1998:

"Though the market's halitosis has been rather bad, Robert Dickey, chief technical analyst at Dain Rauscher Wessels in Minneapolis, said the recent downturn makes it look like stocks should head higher soon.

"Our breadth readings are now at oversold levels," he said. "Which means this market is near the end of this pullback, not at the beginning of a new one." Dickey thinks the week will start out on a dull note, but that the lackluster trading won't last for long. "As we move into the end of next week and the Christmas week and the year-end, I think we're going to see an explosive move to the upside," he said."
