Chinese Telecoms Growth On Target 09-MAR-98 China's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications said it expects the telephone user numbers to increase by 20 million to 103.5 million this year, in line with the Ministry's goal of achieving 9.7% telephone penetration. ÿÿÿÿÿÿ China has the world's second biggest telephone network, and the third largest population of mobile users. The mobile user population 8 million, and this year is expected to reach 13.23 million. ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Access to the Internet is still heavily controlled by Chinese authorities, but even so the Chinese Internet community increased 400% to 160,000 last year.
